Did you know BPCCRA is part of a wider voice for South Poole?

BPCCRA is one of several local community groups that make up the South Poole Chairs Liaison Group (SPCLG) working together on issues that affect our communities.

There is strength in numbers.  By joining forces on issues of shared interest we can have greater influence when raising residents’ concerns with BCP council, local councillors and our MP.

About the SPCLG

South Poole Chairs has its roots in the mid 1990s when local groups began working more closely together in response to significant planning and development proposals. It was established by Ken Pottle MBE who was also instrumental in Neighbourhood Watch and BPCCRA, and taken forward by Terry Stewart & others.

Over the years a stronger Community corps d’esprit ensued following some significant local planning applications .  More groups have become involved over the years and today SPCLG brings together Chairs from community groups across South Poole covering an area of more than 15,000 residents. Members include BPCCRA, Sandbanks Community Group, Canford Cliffs Land Society, Campaign for the Protection of Rural England, Open Spaces Society, Viewpoint Residents’ Association, Poole Flying Boats and Dorset Lake Community.

The group is independent and non-political with a focus on issues affecting the environment, wellbeing and future of South Poole. Current Chair Harry Alexander is also developing a best practice approach to consultation with BCP to help local communities engage more effectively on issues that affect them.

Making a difference together

A significant example is Evening Hill where SPCLG was the main instigator in preventing the development of Evening Hill Conservation Area for residential housing. It remains a public green open space retaining its views across Poole Harbour towards Old Harry Rocks.

Why does it matter to BPCCRA?

Being part of South Poole Chairs means BPCCRA works with neighbouring community groups for a stronger voice with issues both in our area and beyond our own boundaries.

It means that while BPCCRA continues to represent the interests of Branksome Park and Canford Cliffs we can also add our voice to relevant issues of other communities across South Poole.
