This month’s newsletter arrives slightly later than usual but reflects what has been a particularly busy and transitional few weeks for the association.
As we move into the much anticipated summer months BPCCRA enters a new chapter. Following our recent AGM I formally took over as Chair of the association from Peter Schroeder, whose contributions over the last three years we gratefully acknowledge. I also believe I may be the first woman to hold the role and I mention this not as a grand statement but simply because it reflects how our community and environment continue to evolve.
Our AGM in April was extremely well attended with more than 100 members joining us for an engaging morning of guest speakers, discussion and community conversation. We’ve received excellent feedback on both our speakers and business agenda and thank everyone who contributed. Unfortunately illness prevented me from attending on the day so my sincere thanks go to Roy Pointer for stepping in at short notice to chair the meeting so expertly. I’m also very grateful for all the kind messages I received during my recovery.
The turnout at the AGM also highlighted something else, the strength of interest in the association and the importance of managing future meetings safely at the Village Hall. As a result we’re introducing a pre-registration process for next year’s AGM to help manage venue capacity. More to come nearer the time.
As noted at the AGM annual subscriptions for individual members will increase from £5 to £10 from 1 June and to £7 per flat for block memberships. Existing members will be invited to move from Standing Order to online payment at the new subscription rate. We’ll provide clear guidance and support throughout this change.
One of the most important developments for the association is the launch of our new online membership system over the coming weeks. Like many organisations we’re modernising some of our administration processes to make membership administration simpler, more secure and easier to maintain going forward. We’ll share an update on this at next month’s Open Meeting.
These updates ensure the association remains on a stronger footing for the future while continuing the work we all value, representing residents’ interests, protecting the character of our area and maintaining a strong community voice on local matters.
What else? Alongside these membership changes we’re also reviewing the association’s rules and objectives for the first time in many years. Branksome Park and Canford Cliffs have changed significantly over the last half century and it’s important that BPCCRA continues to reflect the community it represents today while remaining true to its original purpose.
We need to be clearer about our objectives, review how we allocate funds for initiatives, improve meetings governance and define the boundaries and roads we cover. We’d also like to introduce themed Open Meetings focusing on topics of particular local interest such as planning or parking issues.
We’re always looking for members who can support the association in any way, particularly in the areas of finance and planning. If you feel you may be able to help even in a small capacity I’d be very pleased to hear from you.

Plus a last thought. Our people offer their services gratis; they are volunteers all with a positive and united intent. This is sometimes easy to forget!
Thank you all for your continuing interest in supporting us all in doing the best we can for the community we care about so deeply.
