BCP Council set to close Poole Quay to vehicular traffic from 27th June

posted in: News 0

The council has had a plan in its bottom drawer for some time to close Poole Quay and the lower High Street to all traffic. Now it has become a reality. Is this a good thing, or could it lead to problems for business and residents? Opinions are divided. Very often when areas are pedestrianised problems can occur in the evening times. On the other hand cars and motor bikes with their pollution and noise are increasingly and understandably perceived as something we should be trying to manage and reduce in urban areas. Restrict cars and motorbikes with their associated problems and then the idea of creating a continental style quay where families are welcome to walk around in safety will become a reality. Many people are saying “let’s give this bave step a fair chance”. One thing for sure is that our tourist related businesses need a helping hand to restore their viability and we all need to be able to meet up safely with our friends and enjoy the summer months. Poole Quay is a superb and valuable local asset we should all be proud of. .
